Health & Safety

Due to the Capital Project, the SCTA has created a new resource to help educate our members about the regulations, concerns, and Federal/State agencies that govern the removal of this hazardous substance.

According to the South Colonie School District's web site:

Crews removed asbestos from Colonie Central High School. That project was completed before the start of school. Students, staff and visitors may notice some ceiling classroom tiles out of place during the school year so that crews can make improvements to plumbing and heating/air conditioning systems over night.

Consequently, contractors have removed hazardous material without proper notice and performed construction while the buildings have been occupied.

The union is currently monitoring the situation and has discussed its concerns with the administration regarding the health and safety of the students and SCTA members working in these buildings maintained by the South Colonie School District.
